The Delaware Educational Assessment Program is described, and results of the spring 1984 implementation of the program are presented. The program involves: (1) statewide standardized testing for grades 1 through 8 and 11 in reading, English, and mathematics; (2) supplemental testing in science and social studies for 11th graders; (3) calculation of averages at the school, district, and state levels by grade and subject area; (4) analysis of test results by school district staff and the development of a plan to remedy weaknesses identified; and (5) reporting of individual achievement progress to parents. Prior to 1983, the program used the California Achievement Tests; thereafter, it adopted the Comprehensive Tests of Basic Skills. In addition, the program provides training in the use and interpretation of test data in curriculum and instructional improvement, supports a mini-grant program to encourage use of test results in instructional improvement, supports a computerized system for immediate access to and use of test data for program management and evaluation, and produces reports for classroom teachers to use in instructional diagnosis. Results from the spring 1984 program implementation are presented by content area, grade level, and school district, with various cross-tabulations. Sixteen data tables are provided. (TJH)
