North Carolina Parenting and Child Development Curriculum Guide.

This guide was developed to be used by consumer home economics teachers as a resource in planning and teaching a year-long course in parenting and child development for high school students in North Caroina. The guide is organized in units of instruction for a first semester course and a second semester course. Each unit contains a content outline, including identified competencies, objectives, suggested learning/teaching activities, and resources to use in developing and teaching the course. The guide also contains a list of references and resources. The 17 units cover the following topics: parenting perspectives; parenting roles and relationships; special parenting concerns; community resources; the parenthood decision; pregnancy and prenatal development; preparing for the birth; the newborn; the study of children; parent-child development; the infant; the toddler; the preschooler; guidance; exceptional children; child care and educational experiences; and child development career opportunities.
