Research Assessment Management, Inc., Silver Spring, MD.
This 1983 conference on disabled Hispanic persons had as its purpose the identification of rehabilitation needs, patterns of service delivery, and service utilization; and the development of recommendations for a systematic research approach addressing those rehabilitation needs. Issue papers include: "The Hispanic Population: An Overview" (Julian Castillo); "Barriers to Access and Utilization of Services by the Handicapped Hispanic" (Arthur Linskey et al.); "Vocational Rehabilitation Process and Hispanic Culture" (Orlando Rivera); and "Counseling and the Rehabilitation Process" (Jose Lafitte). Reactions of conference participants to the issue papers are described in the executive summary. A detailed outline of research needs in rehabilitation areas is provided. Recommendations resulting from the conference include: establishment of a national clearinghouse for information on the Hispanic handicapped; financial support for rehabilitation research; high professional standards for the research; and inter-American collaborative efforts.
