A Score Plus One Year of Graduates' Perceptions of Their Teacher Education Program.
Martin, Oneida L.
How 3,741 certified pre-service teacher graduates viewed their preparation at Tennessee Technological University was examined. For 21 years the university has used an evaluation model with extensive follow-up data on graduates. A profile analysis of the subjects from 1965 to 1986 was retrospectively conducted. Using a 5-point rating scale, graduates expressed satisfaction with knowledge and skills resulting from their preparation. Earlier graduates felt that they were more unprepared in discipline and guidance skills and in teaching exceptional children than were their successors. This perception was partially explained by programs implemented over the period. The data showed that the perceptions of graduates of the earlier years mirrored the directions in which teacher education programs are currently moving. (SLD)
