Magee, Eamon M.; Pratt, Magaret W.
This document provides information on U.S. federal support for maternal and child health programs from 1935-1985. After a brief history of the Children's Bureau, which was the first unit of the federal government concerned with maternal and child health, funding and allocation formulas for Title V of the Social Security Act of 1935 are examined. Information is provided for three parts of Title V of the act: (1) Maternal and Child Health Services; (2) Services for Crippled Children; and (3) Child Welfare Services. The Omnibus Reconciliation Act of 1981 is also discussed with regard to funding and allocation. The major portion of the document is comprised of 61 tables which present information on amount of funding and allocation of funds for different programs and program components, as well as information on allocations and amounts to each state, by program components, from 1936 to 1985.
