Survivor: For People with Developmental Disabilities, Who Have Been Sexually Assaulted. Booklet 1: For Those Who Read Best with Few Words. Special Edition.
Baladerian, Nora J.; And Others
This is the first in a series of booklets written for developmentally disabled people who have been sexually assaulted. This initial booklet is designed for people who understand best with few words and who will read the booklet with a care-provider. Using large print, simple words, and numerous illustrations, the guide illustrates and names private body parts and explains what good and bad touches are. Assault is defined as a bad touch and rape as a very bad assault. Guidelines explain what to do in the event of an assault, when it is appropriate to go to the hospital or call the police, and how the victim may be involved in court proceedings. The booklet emphasizes that the victim did not do anything wrong and is a survivor who can work through the bad feelings and can learn to feel safe again. The booklet concludes with a list of telephone numbers to call for help in the Los Angeles area. (JDD)
