NITI Needs Assessment Study. A Study of the Postsecondary Educational Needs of Merged Area I.
Ratcliff, James L.
The study described in this report was conducted to determine whether the present mix of vocational-technical and adult educational programs and services at Northeast Iowa Technical Institute (NITI) was optimal in meeting the needs of the constituents and clients of the college. Particular attention was given to the question of whether NITI would best serve its constituent communities as a vocational-technical institute or as a community college. Section I presents introductory materials, including an overview of the study and its purpose, project management, scope, constituencies involved, terms used, study design, assumptions, and limitations. Sections II through VIII present the findings of surveys conducted among high school seniors, current NITI students, NITI alumni, area businesses, NITI program advisory committees, area householders, and NITI staff. A summary, conclulsions, and 50 recommendations are presented in section IX, focusing on student recruitment, marketing and counseling, college support services, curricular subjects, staff development, and community college status. Parallel studies and references are presented in sections X and XI. Appendices contain comments from the survey respondents. (EJV)
