This statistical report provides a summary of the characteristics of the 2424 young people committed to residential programs of the New York State Division for Youth during 1985. It provides information on the patterns in individual and regional placement. The data are presented in such a way that comparisons can be made across years. A summary of findings and 49 tables of statistics include information on the following variables: (1) racial and ethnic group membership; (2) classification of offenses; (3) readmission rates; (4) length of stay; (5) age differences; (6) sex differences; and (7) level of placement. Among the findings are the following: (1) the number of admissions increased; (2) the age distribution remained the same as in previous years; and (3) Black youths were admitted and readmitted in larger numbers than Whites or Hispanics.
