The purpose of this instrument is to supplement data from the Adult Basic Learning Examination in assessing the functional level of adults in daily situations. It may also be used as a teaching tool for adults requesting tutoring in specific concepts and skills presented in the instrument. This instrument is an informal assessment instrument and is applicable to teaching the skills and concepts to adults in tutoring situations. Sections include job application, basic competency skills, mathematics, high frequency survival words, preparation directions and abbreviations, pain tablet label, bleach label, motel information, clothing care label, laundromat, frozen dinner, job want ads, map skills, telephone directory, transportation schedule, utility bill, and restaurant menu.
