Instructional Improvement Handbook.

Information on teaching at the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is presented for both new and established teachers. Course and lecture organization, presentation techniques, and teaching aids are covered, along with exams, grading, and teacher evaluation. Class size and composition and classroom environment are briefly discussed. The following teaching methods and concerns are addressed: lectures, questions during class, problem-solving lectures, starting and managing group discussions, planning an independent study project, planning laboratory exercises, classroom demonstrations, expert panel discussions and guest speakers, instruction during field trips, student seminars and presentations. Additional topics include: sexual harassment, reliability of tests, objective and subjective tests, oral examinations, administering written tests, fairness and consistency in grading, returning tests, term papers, and teacher and course evaluation. Appended are information on instructional resources on campus, course revisions requiring curriculum committee action, a sample student background questionnaire, and five sample course/instructor evaluation forms.
