Results of The College and University Personnel Association's 1985-1986 Administrative Compensation Survey is presented. Data are provided on 99 first-line positions and 69 second-line (secondary) positions. Questionnaires were sent to 2,932 higher education institutions, and 1,612 usable responses were obtained. Salary data indicate the median and the interquartile range for each position and for public and private two-year and four-year institutions. Breakdowns of salary information are included for all institutions and for the following categories: public, private, private independent, private religious, technical colleges, and system offices. Salary data are also provided by full-time equivalent enrollment range and institutional budget range. Additional data compare median salaries of those who were promoted or transferred to their positions from within the institution and those who were hired from outside. Salaries of minority and nonminority and male and female personnel are also presented, along with the frequency distribution of all salaries. Appendices include the survey form and instructions, summary position descriptions, and a list of institutions with information on level and type of institution and the state residence. (SW)
