Advice and tested methods for management of meetings from superintendents and board members are combined in this reference book on conducting effective school board meetings. Intended for a wide readership, it contains three chapters and an exhibit section comprising over one-third of the document. Following a brief introduction, chapter 1, "Planning: Setting the Scene for Success," presents first-hand experiences of meeting planners who suggest ways to improve meeting planning procedures. From long-range needs--such as building the policy foundation upon which effective meetings rest--to setting the next meeting agenda, detailed recommendations are provided. Short-term planning means that the agenda must be prepared, the stage set, and the participants prepared. "Performing: The School Board in Action," chapter 2, covers essential tasks of meeting participants: board president, members, and superintendent and administrators. Chapter 3, "Following Up: The Superintendent's Communications," examines significant tasks and establishes accountability for their completion. The exhibits include parliamentary rules, sample agendas, room seating arrangements, and meeting evaluation checklist.
