Hazardous Materials Response Training. Level One.
Lacy, Sondra; And Others
This curriculum guide represents the first level of a training program for hazardous materials responders. Developed as part of Arizona's certification program for hazardous materials personnel, the training is designed for emergency response personnel (fire and police), industry personnel, and emergency medical personnel. This book is divided into three parts. Part 1 contains the instructor guides for the eight-hour training. A list of the competencies/skills and tasks appears first. The guides provide information related to each specified task within the competency. The information includes competency/skill; task; performance objective and standard; student learning experiences; suggested instructional techniques; instructional equipment, materials, and supplies; and resources. The four competencies/skills relate to hazardous materials recognition and identification, safety, capabilities and limitations of first responders, and pre-emergency planning and resources. Part 2 contains lesson plans for these lessons: introduction; detecting the presence of hazardous materials; reference materials; personnel protection and safety; characteristics of hazardous materials I, II, III; planning and scene management; and summary and review. Each lesson plan includes a brief activities outline, student objectives, content outline, slide masters, handouts, related sections of the student outline, and related test questions. Part 3 is the student outline. (YLB)
