Program Guide for Criminal Justice.
Stinchcomb, James D.
This program guide is intended to assist practitioners in developing a course to prepare students for employment in the fields of law enforcement, courts, and corrections in the state of Florida. The introductory sections describe the major concepts and content addressed in the course and the responsibilities of criminal justice sworn personnel, law enforcement and correctional officers, and officers in the criminal justice system. The second section covers guidelines pertaining to program standards, planning, structure, development, review and evaluation, and advisory committees. The following aspects of program content are discussed in the third major section: occupational requirements of criminal justice personnel, program standards, instructional approaches, associate degrees, advisory committees, and a suggested course outline. The suggested course outline includes overviews and objectives for units addressing 24 topics, including the following: the criminal justice system, criminology, criminal investigation, crime scene investigation procedures, juvenile delinquency, police administration, traffic control, law enforcement, accident investigation and traffic enforcement, corrections administration, deviant and normal behavior, criminal law, courtroom demeanor and testimony, rules of evidence, jail operations, institutional and noninstitutional treatment of offenders, human relations, defense tactics, and crime prevention programs.
