Science and Social Issues. Competency Based Curriculum Guide.

The Social Issues course is designed to help students make rational and constructive decisions regarding various social and environmental problems. It is intended to be used with 10, 11, or 12th grade students. This course contains units on decision-making, urban planning, food and nutrition, environmental pollution, nuclear energy, and resource management. Each unit includes: (1) a rationale; (2) list of behavioral objectives; (3) compilation of activities (containing information on suggested grade level, learning objectives, skill areas addressed, materials needed, activity descriptions and/or worksheets, and assessment tasks); and (4) a reference list. Appendices contain a glossary of terms for action words and explanations of the basic processes of science and of integrated processes. (ML)
