Developed to increase student and teacher awareness of safe laboratory conditions, this guide provides information and suggestions for maintaining a safe laboratory environment. Section 1 contains a listing of potentially hazardous chemicals commonly used in secondary school science classes and section 2 lists potentially hazardous chemicals produced in laboratory experiments and other activities. Information for each chemical in both sections is given in tabular form and includes: (1) chemical name; (2) hazards associated with the chemical; (3) incompatible substances or conditions; (4) storage containers; (5) other safeguards; and (6) first aid treatment. A glossary of terms related to laboratory safety is also included. (ML)
