Goldberg, Sally
This paper outlines a sample format for a fast-moving, enjoyable, half-hour television show designed to introduce infants to the academic areas of self-awareness, colors, letters, numbers, shapes, and reading. As envisioned, the program will also include music, information aiding parents in developing their infant's gross and fine motor abilities, advice on child development, and directions for making and ordering appropriate toys. An animated character, Mr. Computer, will be an integral part of the televised activities. Specified variable aspects of programing include gross motor exercises, toy-making activities, and the topic, objects, and color of the day. Participants, including the teacher, parents, and babies, will be dressed in the color of the day, and the color of most of the toys for the babies will be coordinated with that of actors' costumes. The general objective of the program is to provide a stimulating learning situation for babies while providing the parent with an opportunity to learn constructive activities to share with the child. Much of the information presented in the show is based on the book, "Teaching with Toys," by Sally Goldberg. (RH)
