On-Campus Enrollment in Arkansas Higher Education Institutions, Fall 1984. Report 84-2.
Byrd, Mark A.
Fall 1984 on-campus enrollment data in Arkansas colleges and universities are presented, along with a narrative description of trends. Statistical tables provide trend data for the state as a whole as well as data for specific institutions on: fall on-campus headcount by student level and type of institution, 1974-1984; number and distribution of fall full- and part-time on-campus headcount students, 1980-1984; fall on-campus headcount of first-time enrollees; legal residence of students at state-supported and private institutions, and sex and median age of students. Trend analysis for 1984 included findings that: Arkansas colleges and universities experienced a mild enrollment decline of 0.8% in fall 1984; the number of full-time first-time freshmen declined by 3.1%; in total, unclassified prebaccalaureate enrollment rose by 2%, largely as a result of the increase in part-time students; graduate and first-professional enrollment increased by 9.6%; the number of women enrolled at Arkansas institutions increased by 5%; women now represent 54.4% of the total student body; the total number of out-of-state part-time students increased by 4.2%; and the average load for full-time students declined to 14.55 hours. Twenty-three supplementary data tables, as well as a glossary and a list of institutional names and abbreviations, are appended. (SW)
