Lane, John J., Ed.
This volume addresses five of the critical areas of school business management: planning, organizational management, personnel management, controlling, and directing. The various chapters describe a variety of techniques and processes for getting people to perform effectively in meeting organizational goals. The first section focuses on planning techniques, and includes the following articles: "Planning and the Budgeting Process," by A. Rodger Wutzl; "Building a School Information System," by L. Edward Allemand; and "Forecasting Management Techniques," by Richard Ewanio. The second section examines educational organizational techniques, with "Schools as Loosely Coupled Systems," by Frank L. Tavano and "The Problems and Promise of Management by Objectives," by Kenneth R. Stevenson and Leonard O. Pellicer. Staffing/Influencing is the topic of the third section, which includes: "People: The Greatest Resource," by Joan M. Lakebrink; "The X, Y, Zs of School Administration," by John J. Lane; and "Alcohol and Other Drugs: Obstacles to Productivity," by James E. Royce. The fourth section is a discussion of controlling and includes two articles: "Quality Circles in Educational Administration," by John J. Lane and "Operations Management Techniques," by Bruce Aldrich. The final section, which focuses on directing, includes "The Management Team: A Positive Domain," by John J.
