Fall 1983 on-campus enrollment data in Arkansas colleges and universities are presented, along with a narrative description of trends. Statistical tables cover the following areas: fall on-campus headcount by student level and type of institutions, 1974-1983; number and distribution of fall full- and part-time on-campus headcount students, 1980-1983; fall on-campus headcount of first-time enrollees; legal residence of students at state-supported and private institutions, and sex and median age of students. Enrollment at state two-year institutions increased to 12,767, or 17.39% of the total enrollment. State four-year enrollment was up in all but two institutions. The college-going rate increased during 1983, although the number of first-time entering students decreased because of declines in high school graduates. Full-time enrollment declined by 409 students, while part-time enrollment increased by 1,114. Twenty-three of the 32 institutions increased in part-time enrollment. The average load per student remained stable at 15 hours for full-time undergraduates and 5 hours for part-timers; and 11 and 4 hours for full-time and part-time graduate students, respectively. Over 90% of students in Arkansas state-supported institutions list Arkansas as their legal residence. (SW)
