Geographic and Institutional Origin of Arkansas College Students, Fall 1983. Report 83-6.
Byrd, Mark A.
Information on the geographic and institutional origins of students at Arkansas state and private colleges and universities in fall 1984 is presented in tabular, geographic, and narrative form. Entering students numbered 13,072 in fall 1983, a 3.32% decline from the fall 1982 figure of 13,521. The college-bound rate of Arkansas high school graduates increased from 38.2% in 1982 to 39.3% in fall 1983. A total of 6,131 undergraduates transferred from both in-state or out-of-state institutions to Arkansas colleges. Arkansas residents comprised 86.5% of fall 1983 undergraduates. Although the total number of foreign students did not change significantly from fall 1982, the state four-year institutions showed a slight numerical increase (1,004 in 1983 and 977 in 1982) in undergraduate foreign students. A significant number of students enrolled as graduate students at the institution from which they received their baccalaureate degrees. For each college and university, information is provided on the geographic origin of undergraduate students (county and state). In addition, for each college and university, ratios of fall full-time, entering undergraduates to high school graduates are presented by county. (SW)
