A Writing Curriculum: K-12.
Bennett, Susan G., Ed.
The fourth part of a four-year K-12 curriculum guide project for teaching writing, this guide deals with the literary aim (or purpose) for creating composition--which challenges the individual to develop a creative style found in the novel, short story, drama, or poem, and which encompasses both fiction and nonfiction. The preface explains that the four purposes for creating composition--literary, informative, expressive, and persuasive--are based on James L. Kinneavy's "A Theory of Discourse, Aims and Audiences in Writing" and "Writing--Basic Modes of Organization." The guide is organized in two parts, with the first providing a matrix arrangement of ideas for lessons using the literary aim in a variety of modes (description, narration, evaluation, and classification). The matrix is divided according to educational level: elementary (K-6) and secondary (7-12). The second part contains expanded lesson plans for using the literary aim in each mode. (EL)
