A brief description is given of a validated National Diffusion Network Developer-Demonstrator project. Project: INSERVICE (Bethalto Community Unit School District No. 8, Illinois) is a comprehensive teacher inservice training program that directly links the enhancement of teaching skills through classroom based inservice training to significant improvement in student academic achievement. The mechanism for accomplishing this change is the use of classroom based inservice training kits. The four separate but interrelated kits provide learning activities designed to assist teachers in fine tuning their use of specific teaching competencies. At this time, 2,000 schools have implemented the project. Examples are presented of school districts which have replicated the project.
