This teacher resource packet contains a total of 28 modules for teaching about Japan at the elementary and secondary level. Activities on the Japanese family appropriate for grade 1 focus on similarities and differences, family size, family needs, and family roles. Grade 2 lessons look at the school, neighborhood, roles of children in the community, and community services. Grade 6 activities consider family roles, Japanese education, the work ethic, social problems, religion, economy, and nationalism. Grade 9 activities include lessons on Japan's physical geography, and industrialization. Grade 11 activities concern overpopulation, government, work ethic, and the status of women. Each lesson plan contains a listing of concepts and skills addressed, procedure, resources needed, and lesson length. Handouts, including charts and graphs, are included. (LP)
