Standards for Developing Quality Vocational Education Programs. Report of the Committee.
Iowa State Dept. of Public Instruction, Des Moines.
A task force was created in Iowa to develop state standards for vocational education programs. From the task force, a standards committee with four objectives was created. These objectives were (1) to collect and study existing standards, (2) to ascertain changes and/or additions needed to assure quality programs for students of vocational education in Iowa, (3) to prepare a document that specifies the standards for quality vocational education programs in the state, and (4) to make recommendations for implementation of the standards. This report contains the standards developed by the committee. Standards are included for each of the following 10 topics: program offerings, evaluation, instructor load, funding and finance, advisory councils and advisory committees, staff, vocational student organizations, facilities and equipment, written programs of instruction and courses of study, and staff development. Indicators of meeting the standard are given for each one. Appendixes to the report include the mission statement of the standards committee, a glossary of terms used in the standards, and some examples of standards. (KC)
