Information about the effect of changes in interest rates and the length of repayment on mortgages is available through the use of this loan and mortgage spreadsheet program designed for use on Apple computers. It is especially designed to help people evaluate the relative advantages of a variable rate mortgage with a low initial rate of interest against mortgages with a higher but fixed rate of interest. The program allows the user to determine monthly payments for both types of mortgages and to calculate total interest payments. The program has two major options, one for fixed rate mortgages and one for variable rate mortgages. For fixed rate mortgages up to ten different interest rates can be specified. For adjustable rate mortgages the program allows the user to experiment with different rates of increase and decrease. Procedures for operating the program are detailed and the program is provided.
