Follow-up Study of Indiana University at South Bend Graduates: Undergraduate and Graduate Degree Programs, 1970-83, Division of Education.
Duvall, Charles R.; And Others
Perceptions of 242 graduates of the Division of Education program at Indiana University at South Bend were studied. Bachelors' and masters' level graduates who received their degrees during 1970-1983 were mailed opinionaires to determine the following information: respondents' employment status and their opinions regarding courses/topics in foundations of education, educational psychology, methods and materials, and classroom management, as well as content preparation. About 16 percent of the respondents were employed as teachers from preschool through senior high levels. Respondents also indicated whether they worked as teacher aides, administrators, or counselors, and whether they worked part- or full-time. Most were primarily engaged in teaching in a regular (53 percent) or special education (16 percent) classroom, and some worked in higher education. Respondents also rated the adequacy of preparation of specific courses/topics and learning experiences. For example, students rated the following components of the foundations of education area: history, social impact, philosophy, ethnic/cultural awareness, and disability awareness. In addition to the findings mentioned, 34 statistical tables of findings are provided, along with student answers to 28 open-ended questions. The questionnaire is included. (SW)
