Current enrollment trends for Connecticut higher education are identified, along with enrollment projections to 2000, based on revised state population estimates. Also covered in narrative and statistical sections are: population trends, Connecticut high school graduation trends, and enrollment projections by type of institution. Enrollment trends are also detailed by gender, residence status, age distribution, level, and part-time/full-time status, as well as for specific colleges. Generally, full-time equivalent enrollment is expected to decline 8 percent by 1990, an additional 8 percent between 1990-1995, and another 2 percent until 2000. The number of 18-24 year olds will continue to decrease through most of the 1990s, and the number in the 25-29 year age group will grow during the 1980s but decline during the 1990s. The proportion of Connecticut high school graduates going on to college is increasing, reaching approximately 62 percent in 1983. Additional trends include: in fall 1984, 62 percent of Connecticut college students were enrolled in the public sector; a drop in enrollment of older persons seemed linked to high employment in the state; and about 82 percent of all enrolled students are Connecticut residents.
