The State of the Art in Inservice Education. A Review of the Literature.
Cooper, Carol M.; Jones, Edward V.
This monograph reviews the literature pertaining to inservice education and summarizes its contents relating to several broad themes: planning and instructional concerns in inservice education, problems relating to administration and coordination of inservice programs, and elements common to successful programs. The literature of inservice describes a diverse range of staff development practices and problems, but reflects a general lack of consensus as to what should be done to assure the most productive allocation of available resources for effective inservice programs. In view of these limitations, this paper attempts to summarize what is known, and thereby identify more clearly what we do not know or have been unable to accomplish with respect to inservice education.
