Some Essential Learner Outcomes in Communications/Language Arts. Curriculum Bulletin No. 61.
Youngstrom, Mark, Ed.
Intended for elementary and secondary school language arts teachers, this guide lists suggested outcomes in the development of successful communicators, based on knowledge of child development. Following an introduction, the guide discusses key considerations and procedural sugestions for developing the communications/language arts curriculum. The essential learner outcomes are then presented, divided into eight strands: (1) reading/literacy, (2) reading/literature, (3) writing, (4) speaking, (5) listening, (6) language study, (7) resource use, and (8) media literacy. These are followed by key process outcomes for introduction in grades K-4, 5-8, and 9-12. The guide then presents a communications/language arts scope and sequence chart, and a glossary of communications/language arts terms. A bibliography concludes the guide. (HTH)
