Junior College Directory, 1960. Data for June 1, 1958 to May 31, 1959.
Gleazer, Edmund J., Jr., Ed.
Based on data collected by the American Association of Junior Colleges (AAJC), this directory provides information on 683 junior colleges in the United States and its territories, Canada, and other selected countries for 1958-59. Following introductory material on the scope of the directory, part I lists the colleges alphabetically by state or country, providing the following information for each: location; administrative head; AAJC membership; state recognition or accrediting agency; type of control or affiliation; co-educational or single-sex status; date founded; enrollments for fall 1958 broken down by freshman, sophomore, or unclassified status, adult enrollments, and full- or part-time status; summer and cumulative enrollments; and numbers of full- and part-time faculty. This section also provides statewide summaries for all junior colleges and for public and private institutions, which include data on number of colleges, AAJC membership, student enrollments for fall 1958, and full- and part-time faculty. Part II presents an analysis of junior college growth from 1900 to 1959, highlighting expansion in three states; presents data on changes in the number of colleges and enrollments, types of colleges, and accrediting agencies; and explains changes in the 1960 directory. This section also includes a list of individual AAJC members; an alphabetical listing of junior colleges; a directory of national and regional junior college organizations; and a directory of junior college honorary societies and social organizations.
