MOVE on Together: Classroom Activities for Vocational Education.
State Univ. of New York, Utica. Coll. of Technology.
Developed by a committee of vocational education teachers, the activities in this guide are intended to help instructors to teach students the attitudes, characteristics, and knowledge that will enable them to use their vocational education skills in the most effective way. They also are designed to help students overcome sex stereotypes and form a more positive attitude toward the abilities of both sexes. Five themes are developed throughout the activities: exploration of career opportunities; "habitudes" (those attitudes that are critical for successful employment); human relations; leadership (goal setting, self development, and self concept); and career (knowledge of where to look for job openings, how to write a resume, how to complete an application, how to succeed in a job interview, and how a union works). Activities to support these themes are provided in the areas of general vocational courses, agriculture, business and distributive education, consumer and homemaking, health occupations, industrial arts, and trades. The trades area is further subdivided into activities for air conditioning/climate control, automotive, commercial art and printing, construction and maintenance, cosmetology, drafting, electrical-electronics, and metal working courses. Besides the learning activities, the guide includes fact sheets and student surveys for the five theme areas, resources for vocational equity, a bibliography, and a form for teacher feedback to the committee. Activities are indexed by theme areas and by titles. (KC)
