This teaching outline is designed for use by speakers involved in the High School Labor Studies Program, a 10-session cooperative program developed by the United Auto Workers and designed to familiarize high school students with the world of work. Covered in the individual sections are the following topics: the early days of the labor movement, recent labor history, the high school student and the world of work, union structure, the duty of fair representation and internal appeals procedures, the quality of work life, occupational health and safety, the role of women and minorities in the world of work, and labor's role in the community. Each section contains some or all of the following: detailed instructions for conducting the session, discussion questions and possible answers, and an instructional text. A questionnaire designed to measure student attitudes toward labor unions is provided along with union answers to the questions and rationales behind the answers. (MN)
