Eastern Illinois Univ., Charleston.
This guide is intended for personnel who are responsible for planning and conducting a Work Experience and Career Exploration Program (WECEP), a special cooperative education program for 14- and 15-year-old special needs students. Chapter 1 provides guidelines for program development, including rationale, purpose, advantages, a basic planning guide; check list of activities for organizing a WECEP program, the teacher/coordinator, student identification, and contact persons. Chapter 2 presents information on state and federal rules and regulations regarding child labor as well as the required and optional forms around which WECEPs are organized. Training stations (work experience) are the focus of chapter 3. Chapter 4 provides materials for the in-school related class, career exploration. Four parts (58 lessons) cover these general topics: preparing for the job market, understanding oneself, basic career information, and job clusters (agricultural occupations, business, marketing, and management occupations; health occupations; home economics occupations; and industrial oriented occupations). Each lesson contains these components: lead-in, focus (objectives), sufficient activities for use in a 2-year course, and student worksheets. Answer keys conclude the chapter.
