HERO HELPS for Home Economics Related Occupation Coordinators. Volume I.
Northern Arizona Univ., Flagstaff. Center for Vocational Education.
These 25 modules for independent study comprise the first volume of a two-volume set of HERO (Home Economics Related Occupations) HELPS for student use in competency-based professional development. A management system that includes a filing system, testing, record keeping, and scheduling is discussed. A sample contract and other class management forms are provided. Each module contains teacher and student materials. Teacher materials include an information sheet listing resources and materials needed by students, an application (student evaluation instrument) with answer key, and a job advancement (more detailed student evaluation instrument) with answer key. Student materials include an outline of student activities (detailing job competencies covered in the module, learning activities to be completed, an optional extra credit activity) and information sheets. The 25 modules are categorized under six HERO areas (with representative module topics): fabric/fashion (bolt information, choosing fabrics, fabric blends, fabric finishes, fiber classification); merchandising--merchandise presentation (approaching the customer, talking about merchandise); merchandising--fashion accessories (handbag identification, materials and care, scarves); merchandising--fashion vocabulary (identification of dresses, skirts, coats, jackets, pants, sleeves, necklines, collars); merchandising--general (fitting women's swimsuits); and interior design (furniture arrangement, lighting).
