Training Agricultural Economists for Work in International Development.
Fienup, Darrell F.; Riley, Harold M.
Presented are the methodology and results of a 1978-79 study of more than 700 alumni of United States graduate programs in agricultural economics about needs and strategies for improving U.S. education in international agricultural development. Included in this survey were both U.S. students and students from less developed countries (LDC's). Emphasis was upon the educational needs of LDC professionals as perceived in terms of their own careers and in strengthening emerging agricultural economics capabilities in their respective countries. The report covers: (1) background and organization of the study; (2) evaluation of graduate education by LDC professionals; (3) status of agricultural economics in LDC's; (4) U.S. response to LDC professional development needs; and (5) summary, conclusions and recommendations.
