Recommendations concerning the admission and placement of students from Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Singapore are presented along with results of a review of the system of education within each country. The information was gathered by teams of U.S. and Canadian educators. For each country, information is presented on the country, the people, the government, the structure of education, the language of instruction, the academic year, preschool programs, primary education, secondary education, and tertiary education. Additional areas of analysis include: transcripts; standardized tests; the technical/vocational educational programs; public and private institutions; accreditation; certificates, diplomas, and degrees; academic curricula; college entrance examinations; grading scales; and teacher education. Information on curricula and characteristics of specific institutions, placement recommendations for U.S. admissions officers, and sample record forms and transcripts are presented. (SW)
