C.E.O. 131: Career Planning and Decision-Making. Facilitator's Manual.
Wygant, Nancy S.
Guidelines and materials for teaching the Career Planning and Decision-Making course at Bowling Green State University are presented. The manual is divided into the following sections: (1) an overview of the course objectives and grading guidelines for facilitators, (2) expectations of the students for completing assignments, (3) a course syllabus to be used during the summer term along with mini-lectures, and in-class exercises that might be used by the facilitators, and (4) an appendix that includes the course syllabus to be used during the regular academic year, two getting-acquainted exercises, and a suggested reading list for facilitators. A bibliography of sources used in developing the syllabi is included. The course is designed to assist students in obtaining information about themselves and the world of work to aid in their choice of college major and career. Through both classroom and out-of-classroom activities they learn about their vocational interest, perceived skills possessed, capabilities, work and life values, life-style needs, duties and responsibilities involved in several occupations, expectations of potential employers, the levels of education needed to enter various occupations, career ladders, and the steps involved in the decision-making process. Students also practice decision-making skills and they interview currently employed persons. The elective undergraduate course can be taken on either a letter-graded basis or on a student's option for two credit hours. (Author/SW)
