Colorado Experience-Based Career Exploration (7-10). Final Report. Volume II: Final Evaluation Report.
Rask, Glen
The Colorado Experience-Based Career Education (EBCE) model was tested in 1978-79 in three rural sites and one urban site utilizing both alternative and infused program approaches. (The modified Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory EBCE model focuses on exploration for grades 7-10.) Evaluation was designed to evaluate three program components (basic skills, life skills, career development) and two general program questions. Instruments used included (1) pre-post student assessment instrument (all components), (2) Adult Performance Level instrument (basic skills), (3) student interview instrument (life skills, career development), and (4) community, parent, and staff survey instruments (general program questions). Evaluation results showed a significant difference both in students' performance on a pre/post basis for all program components and between project students' and control group performance. Staff, parents, and community survey participants felt the program had strong merits and supported it. Both rural and urban locations and both infused and alternative approaches demonstrated significant improvement in student abilities. The component which analyses show made the greatest change was career development. (Appendixes, amounting to over one-half of the report, include evaluation and survey instruments and data analyses.)
