This book is a compilation of 17 papers presented at the 1979 convention of the National Organization on Legal Problems of Education. The authors are, for the most part, attorneys or educators specializing in school law. Most of the papers introduce a topic currently raising legal problems across the country and discuss the pertinent facts of and the decisions reached in several court cases touching on the topic. Issues addressed include the civil and constitutional rights of students and school employees, relationships between schools and their employees, due process requirements in the educational setting, changes in the liability of schools for damages, considerations surrounding new regulations concerning education of the handicapped and elimination of sex discrimination, and the responsibility and role of the school district's lawyers.
