Mastery of sixteen "life skills" tasks will be a Seattle Public Schools graduation requirement beginning in 1981. Five forms of the Minimum Competencies Performance Test, which will be used to measure mastery of those tasks, are presently being developed and field tested. This report presents the results of the analysis of the first field test. The five forms of the test as a whole have high internal consistency, are stable, and are moderately equivalent to one another. The fourteen individual competencies measured by each form are not as internally consistent, nor are they as stable or as equivalent from form to form. Some items need to be replaced in order to improve the reliability and equivalency of both the total test and the individual competencies. If demonstration of mastery of all fourteen competencies becomes the graduation requirement, the number of items measuring each competency should be increased. The results of this analysis were used in the development of the revised version of the Minimum Competencies Performance Test used for the Spring, 1979 field test. (Author)
