Trainer's Guide to Blocks: A Creative Curriculum for Early Childhood.
Dodge, Diane Trister
This trainer's guide is designed for day care center directors and others responsible for teacher training and parent education who wish to develop and present workshops based on the manual "Blocks - A Creative Curriculum for Early Childhood." The guide is divided into five sections, called "sessions," which correspond to the first five chapters in the block manual. Each of the five sessions is designed as a complete workshop and includes suggestions on techniques for conveying the information in a workshop setting. Session topics include: (1) getting acquainted with blocks; (2) arranging space and materials for block play; (3) the teacher's role in the block corner; (4) dramatic play with blocks; and (5) mathematics and problem solving in block play. Two handouts concerning stages of block building and arranging the space and materials for block play are appended. This teacher's guide is not intended to be used alone and is thought to be helpful only when read in conjunction with the block manual, which is available in both English and Spanish. (Author/RH)
