The Corporate Career Demonstration Project is a Federally funded program designed to provide economically disadvantaged young adults with specialized training, counseling and educational experiences. The project's major goal is to prepare these youth for entry level corporate career positions they would otherwise be unable to obtain. Applicants recruited from the Houston area took part in a thirteen week pre internship program designed to develop personal, interpersonal and academic skills. They then entered the internship phase which included matching participants to corporations, interviews with potential employers, and a three stage on-the-job internship. The program was evaluated using observations, interviews, questionnaires, and standardized tests. Data indicated that the program had a significant impact on the personal, interpersonal, and academic skills of the interns. Gains were made in all three areas as a consequence of their training. (MK)
