Disability Awareness Day (DAD) at Indiana University at South Bend.
Freitag, Mary Sue
The paper describes and evaluates Disability Awareness Day (DAD), an activity at Indiana University designed to raise the awareness of the participants to the disabled community and strengthen the University's commitment to the disabled community. During the day four films were shown and disability simulations of the following handicapping conditions were organized: physically handicapped (wheelchair), blindness, deafness, hyperactivity, and mental retardation. It was felt that the scope of the simulation activities should be expanded during subsequent DADs and that publicity needed to be increased. Letters concerning the activities and evaluation forms from participants are included. (PHR)
