A Classification Scheme for Client Problems in Community Health Nursing.
Visiting Nurse Association of Omaha, NE.
This manual describes a classification system for classifying and recording client problems requiring nursing intervention and offers a plan for its implementation. Part 1 discusses the development of the method, described as an orderly arrangement of a nonexhaustive list of client problems diagnosed by nurses. Problems are divided into four domains (environmental, psychosocial, physiological, and health behaviors) and further identified by modifiers of the problems and signs or symptoms of problems. Contents include background, advantages, design and testing, description, classification scheme, classification scheme in perspective, computer application, coded classification scheme, and computer-based system design. Part 2 presents materials on implementation of the scheme. It discusses the two processes in preparing for implementation: planning and instruction. Information for the coordinator/instructor is then provided--a description of course content; discussion of use of the classification scheme with examples of problem labels, modifiers, and signs or symptoms; instructions for preparing the problem list and for completing the problem list form; and practice examples. Appendices, amounting to approximately one-third of the manual, include a user's guide outline, definition of terms, test program report, literature review, and selected bibliography. (YLB)
