A New Course for the Communication Curriculum: Achieving Dialog.
Seiquist, Jack
"Achieving Dialog," a model course in one-to-one communication for close relationships, is described and presented as a possible new course for the speech communication curriculum of colleges and universities. Research findings from a comprehensive evaluation of the course are summarized, and the societal need for such a course is indicated. It is suggested that a complementary relationship can exist between this course and the interpersonal communication course offered by many speech departments, since both courses are seen as valuable in assisting students in attaining a reasonable level of face-to-face communication competence. Appendixes, which comprise the major portion of the paper, contain an extensive course description, a number of materials used in the course, a bibliography, and an abstract of the study that evaluated the course.
