1979-1980 Fall Enrollment Analysis.
Tillberg, Rebecca
Tables are provided, summarizing Fall 1979 enrollment and student characteristics data for the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD). The report first presents a district-wide profile of enrollment in six categories: day/evening, male/female, full-/part-time, freshmen/sophomores, first-time/continuing, and age 21 or over. This profile continues with an examination of student age and ethnic distribution, weekly student contact hours, student credit hours carried, the age distribution of students utilizing instructional television, overseas enrollment, comparative enrollments at other area colleges, admissions categories of entering students, and sources of new students. A narrative summary of these data reveals the following: (1) Fall 1979 enrollment in the LACCD rose to 130,896, a 5.1% increase over Fall 1978; (2) day enrollments showed an increase of 1.5%, while evening enrollments rose 10.4%; (3) weekly student contact hours increased by 3.1%; (4) LACCD students, especially evening students, continued the long-standing trend toward lighter class loads; and (5) female and part-time enrollments increased more sharply than male and full-time enrollments. Following district-wide data, tables are presented illustrating enrollment by category, student ethnicity, age distribution, admissions classifications, and sources of new students for each of the district's nine colleges.
