Help Tell the Story.

This guide offers suggestions and lists resources that are of aid in telling stories in which children can actively participate. Five types of participation stories are discussed: (1) stories in which children participate verbally; (2) stories in which children respond to story cues with appropriate actions; (3) song stories in which children sing and perform actions mentioned in the songs; (4) stories for which the storyteller completes an arts and crafts project while telling the story or which lead to an art activity for children; and (5) holiday-related stories. For each type of story, the guide offers a sample story and lists a number of suggested story books, indicating how a storyteller can make use of each one. Also provided are a discussion of the value of participation stories, general suggestions for their use, and a bibliography of relevant professional materials. (GT)
