The relationships between labor force behavior, marital status and college attendance decisions of women between the ages of 25 and 65 were investigated through a model, empirically tested using ordinary least squares, from the 1975 survey of adult education conducted by the Bureau of the Census for the National Institute of Education. From the over 16,000 observations provided by the 1975 statistical test, approximately 3% of women between 25 and 65 who were eligible were enrolled in a college or university for degree credit. Results confirmed the hypotheses that women: (1) are less likely to go to college as they begin to approach retirement age; (2) labor force members are more likely to go to college; (3) who have already completed some college are more likely candidates for returning to school; and (4) who are divorced or single are more likely to return to college.
