Summary information is provided about the school sites that participated in the National Education Association's three-year inservice education project. The process by which over 600 inservice education materials were identified and screened for inclusion in the project's resource base is described, and the development of a dissemination system to provide schools with information about available inservice products is outlined. Key project learnings about the role of the teacher in inservice education and the function of an inservice program planning committee are discussed. Appendices include details about the chronology of project events, the location of project sites, and the types of R&D products offered to various schools. Also included are five areas of independent study examined by the project. Topics for this section include teacher reaction to research-based training materials, research-based products selected or rejected by project participants, requests made by teachers for research-based products, the organization and operation of an inservice education system, and the continuing search for R&D-based inservice education materials.
